College of Business to be named after Satish and Yasmin Gupta.

WASHINGTON, DC: An Indian American couple has donated a staggering $12 million to the University of Dallas.
Satish and Yasmin Gupta made the donation to the university’s school of business, which will now be named the “Satish and Yasmin Gupta College of Business” in their honor. It is the largest donation the university has ever received in its 57-year history.
In an interview with the Dallas Business Journal, Gupta explained his and his wife’s motivation for giving such a large donation to the school: “Right now, the College of Business classes and administration is all scattered around. We are hoping this new state of the art building will help bring all of the classes under one umbrella.”
Both husband and wife are alumni of the University of Dallas, having both earned their MBAs at the institution. Today, however, the University of Dallas is still a relatively small school, with roughly 1,200 undergraduate students and 1,300 graduate students. It is, however, a remarkably diverse campus, with about 60% of its students coming from out-of-state, and a student population that includes citizens of over 40 countries.
The Guptas hope that their donation to the business school – not to mention having Indian names on a building in a conservative state like Texas – will continue to foster that sense of racial and religious acceptance and bring more talent to not just the university, but the city of Dallas as whole.
Satish Gupta founded SB International, Inc. in 1981, a private steel company that he has been the president and CEO of since its inception. His wife, Yasmin, is the company’s executive vice-president. Both grew up as neighbors in India, and came to the University of Dallas in 1979 to pursue their graduate degrees. Upon completion, they returned back to India, married, and then came back to Dallas to start a family.
The construction of the new business school building will begin in 2015. It is unknown at this time how long the construction process will take and when the building will officially be open to students.
