Awards showcase achievements of NGOs in India.

MUMBAI: AmeriCares India announced the winners of its 5th annual Spirit of Humanity Awards, at their annual awards program, held at the JW Marriott Hotel here, on Wednesday.
The awards showcase achievements of nongovernmental organizations and individuals working to improve health care for the underprivileged. Awards were presented to winners in seven categories: Child Health, Diabetes, Eye Care, Oncology/Palliative Care, Thalassemia, Women’s Health and Jury’s Choice.

More than 200 nominations were received for this year’s competition. The top three applicants in each category presented their work to a jury in a transparent, standardized format – all under the supervision of KPMG. The winner in each category received a cash award of Rs.100,000, a Spirit of Humanity trophy and a Certificate of Excellence.
AmeriCares India is a public charitable trust that responds to emergency medical needs and delivers medical aid to health care providers in 27 Indian states and two union territories. The organization operates a highly successful mobile clinic program in Mumbai, conducts on-site disaster preparedness workshops for emergency medical personnel and sponsors community-based health education programs for disease prevention.
The awards are supported by leading health care organizations like Abbott (Child Health), Novartis (Oncology, Thalassemia & Diabetes), Bharat Serums & Vaccines (Women’s Health) and Baxter.
More than 300 distinguished guests including CEOs, CSR heads of leading organizations, faculty and thought leaders in the social sector and leaders of nongovernmental organizations, attended the grand award function.
AmeriCares India launched the Spirit of Humanity Awards in 2010 to celebrate the exemplary work of individuals, corporations and organizations assisting health care for the disadvantaged throughout India.
