Gupta is writing a book.

NEW YORK: It’s a terrible day for the family of Rajat Gupta as the former Goldman Sachs Director heads to prison – at the prison camp at the Federal Medical Center Devens, located in Ayers, Massachusetts – on June 17 to serve two years in jail after a long, unsuccessful legal battle to stave off the inevitable.
The silver lining in this worst period of his successful, affluent life: Gupta in all likelihood would not to have to spend all his time in jail as would be eligible for a halfway house or detention at home on or before he spends 85 percent of his time in prison, according to a report in The New York Times. Keeping that in mind, Gupta may be home well before the end of 2015.
Gupta is also writing a book to reflect his version of the goings on with the former convicted hedge fund honcho Sri Lankan American Raj Rajarathnam, which ultimately proved to be the undoing of his reputation and career.
That book is likely to be a best-seller and even if it does not recoup all the money he spent on his legal battles – it is estimated that he spent at least $30 million in legal fees to his lawyer Gary Naftalis during the trial stage – it is likely to generate a huge amount of interest across the globe.
The book, one can only presume, will also be about the life of Gupta as he rose to success after his excellent academic credentials. Gupta was also an esteemed entrepreneur and highly respected member of the Indian American community, at the time of his arrest, having played a stellar role in the growth and cause of the America India Foundation.
The other point that has not come to light is also the immigration status of Gupta. If he is an American citizen, then of course, he will come out of prison, and would be at liberty to start his life anew in this country. In case he was a citizen of India, even as a Green Card holder, then under current laws, he would be in danger of being deported to India once his jail time comes to an end.
One thing is for sure: it’s a sad day for the community when Gupta is incarcerated on Tuesday.

Why is it a sad day ?
1. Because he is going to jail ?
2. Because the court sent him to jail ?
3. Because he did what he did ?
4. Because he let down the Indian American community ?
5. Because of the agony caused to his family ?
6. Because he spent $30 million on legal fees & fines ?
7. Because he let down India ?
8. Because he let down all his ‘Friends of Rajat’ ?
God gave him everything, and more.
Did he defy God’s blessings ?
The American justice system did not spare Americans too, for the same offense.
That country and its people didn’t leave even its President, when found guilty. He was barred for 5 years from the bar and fined $5lacs, which the media made little mention, perhaps as gratitude for favors received.
