BANGALORE: Amitabh Bachchan is promoting his new TV series, Yudh, with full force. On June 17, he was at the Bombay Stock Exchange in Mumbai to promote the series. He rang the bell at the BSE as part of his promotional activity for the highly awaited TV series.
“Rung the Bell’ at the Bombay Stock Exchange and held the horns of the ‘Bull… promotion for ‘Yudh’… Thank you BSE for this honour,” the 71 year old actor posted on Twitter.
According to sources, he registered the fictional company Shanti Constructions Pvt. Ltd (owned by Bachchan’s character Yudhisthir Sikarwar in ‘Yudh’) on the BSE. This is a novel step for any TV series in India so far. Collaborating with real life business agencies as part of the promotion is nothing new. American films and TV shows have done it for a long time. But it is indeed a new step for a Hindi TV series.
The Bollywood legend spoke at the promotional event, “In a way, stock exchange depicts the condition of our country. It acts as a mirror. When stock exchange does well, then we all feel happy, we think that our country is progressing. So, this is a very important place.”
Yudh also stars Sarika, who has been cast as Amitabh Bachchan’s spouse, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Kay Kay Menon, and Tigmanshu Dhulia, the director of Paan Singh Tomar. Nawazuddin and Dhulia had previously worked together in Gangs of Wasseypur which was directed by Anurag Kashyap, the creative director for Yudh. The series has been directed by Ribhu Dasgupta with Kashyap at the helm of directors and also with Shoojit Sircar serving as the creative consultant.
Kashyap had said in a statement that the series will change the way India sees television and will open a new path for a new genre in television entertainment.
“I believe that every creative decision that we take, there is some sort of worry in our minds. There will be anxiety, there will be a feeling of apprehension whether the new venture will prove positive or not. But, if we keep sitting silent because of fear then everything goes wrong. So, I have always tried to ensure that any job I take, I work with full confidence because if I don’t, some or the other problem will crop up,” said Bachchan at the BSE on Tuesday.
Yudh has reportedly more than 20 hours of content to be aired. The series, which is about a business tycoon and his endless battles with his health, his family and his business rivals, will premiere on Sony Entertainment Television sometime next month with a finite number of episodes.
