BANGALORE: Model and actress Dipannita Sharma has become one of the new faces of the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) organization, posing for a provocative ad that aims to discourage purchasing items made of reptile skin.
The ad, which was released on Monday, features Sharma (37) wearing a snakeskin (or snakeskin-esque) bodysuit while lying on top of a tree trunk, amidst a forest background that has her looking like something of a snake herself. The ad says “Exotic animals belong in the wild, not in your wardrobe,” driving home the campaign’s point.
The ad was photographed by Colston Julian, while the bodysuit that Sharma wears was created by Indian fashion designers Chandni Bahri and Nikhil Thampi, reports Bollywood Hungama. Sharma, who is gearing up for the release of her new film, Pizza 3D, joins Imran Khan, Sonakshi Sinha, John Abraham, and Madhuri Dixit-Nene as ambassadors for the worldwide organization.
Sharma is perhaps best known to moviegoers around the world as one of the trio of women duped by Ranveer Singh’s suave con artist character in the 2011 film Ladies vs. Ricky Bahl. That film, which co-starred Anushka Sharma and introduced Parineeti Chopra, netted Sharma a Zee Cine Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, although her on-screen success since then has not been great.
Originally from Assam, Sharma is currently based in Mumbai, She is a graduate of the Indraprastha College for Women in Delhi, and is currently married to Dilsher Singh Atwal, a businessman whose family deals in mining.
