BANGALORE: Following on the heels of friends and frequent collaborators Yo Yo Honey Singh and Akshay Kumar, Bollywood siren Sonakshi Sinha has purchased a team to compete in the upcoming World Kabaddi League (WKL).
Sinha announced the purchase of the team on Thursday, telling reporters that she has been a longtime fan of the sport and she is looking forward to seeing her brand-new team compete in the inaugural season of the WKL, which is set to get underway in just a matter of weeks.
The WKL is expected to launch next month, and will feature teams in at least five different countries – such as the UK, UAE, Canada, and the US – playing against each other through December of 2014. Sinha’s team will go up against several others, including those of her aforementioned friends, each of whom purchased their teams in the last few weeks – in fact, Singh’s purchase was announced less than a week ago.
The terms of Sinha’s deal were not disclosed, but the acquisition continues the seemingly unstoppable string of successes for the Rs. 100 Crore Queen of Bollywood. Her latest release, Holiday, saw her co-star yet again with Kumar and crossed into the vaunted “100 Crore Club” in spite of average reviews. She was also recently spotted in California, shooting a music video for Singh’s most recent Single, “Superstar.”
Sinha is currently shooting her next film, Tevar, which will see her co-star opposite Arjun Kapoor. Last year proved to be somewhat difficult for her – Bullet Raja and Once Upon a Time in Mumbai Dobaara flopped badly, and R… Rajkumar and Boss only proved to be semi-decent box office hits – but she is turning it around this year already.
