Ramesh Sippy’s comeback film after 19 years.

NEW DELHI: Ramesh Sippy is back to direction after 19 years and with a bold script altogether. Even after all these years his choice for actress has not changed though: he’s approached Hema Malini for his next film Shimla Mirch.
The bold script demands Hema to romance with her on screen daughter’s lover. When Hema was approached, she rejected the proposal after reading the script. It’s the boldest script that has been offered to her in her career.
Being a member of the Parliament, she rejected it saying, “I can’t do this. Not now when I’ve political duties to perform. My party (the Bharatiya Janta Party) won’t approve.”
But Sippy asked her to trust him. And she eventually agreed.
Though films with such content have been released earlier, Shimla Mirch is a daring love story that is not tantalizing and cheesy, at least as far as word of mouth goes. It challenges society’s moral code of conduct, where a mother figure becomes a predator in her daughter’s life.
Yaariyaan’s lead actress Rakulpreet Kaur will be playing the role of her daughter and Rajkumar Rao will be playing the man in demand.
According to Bollywood Hungama, Hema Malini says, “We can go on making the same stories over and over again. Or we can try to do something a little different. This film is not a shocker. It’s light hearted story. I am sure it will be done tastefully and won’t offend anyone.”
In the past, Guru Dutt’s Baharen Phir Bhi Aayengi in 1966 where two sisters played by Mala Sinha and Tanuja fell in love with the same man Dharmendra, did well at the box office. Though Guru Dutt died, his brother directed the film thereafter.
