Akshay got the idea from watching a Tom and Jerry episode.

NEW DELHI: No one would have imagined that Akshay Kumar could have gone so far in terms of doing real stunts. Unlike its original version, the remake of Shaukeen involves some stunts done without any VFX.
Shaukeen is a 80s classic film that had three lecherous men drooling for and chasing a pretty bar dancer Rati Agnihotri. Akshay Kumar thought of adding spice to the film while remaking it and titled it The Shaukeens.
While watching the Tom and Jerry series with his children, an idea struck Akshay, and he’s implemented it in the film, as a rare stunt: he and Lisa Hayden will be seen in the film sitting on a couch that will hang mid- air.
Interestingly, there is no VFX used and the lead pair shot it in a beautiful beach of Cape Town. Abhishek Sharma, the director of the film, said that it was a difficult scene. Moreover the weather was freezing. Still the lead completed the shot effortlessly in their summer costumes. Lisa described the scene as bizarre.
It’s said that Nargis Fakhri was approached for the role but due to conflicting date issues, Lisa Hayden was taken on board.
The original cast had Mithun Chakraborty along with Ashok Kumar, Utpal Dutt and A K Hangal along with Rati whereas the remake stars Anupam Kher, Paresh Rawal and Annu Kapoor in prominent roles.
The film has just gone on the floors and is slated to release on November 21, 2014.
