BANGALORE: After creating an unprecedented buzz in the smartphone industry, Xiaomi has now suspended the sales of Mi3 smartphone in India. The final flash sale of the smartphone closed on August 26th, lasting only for a few seconds in Flipkart. This comes as a shock to many of the smartphone enthusiasts who wanted to try their luck the next time when Flipkart announces a sale.
The official statement from Xiaomi says they are now planning to shift their focus to Xiaomi Redmi 1S, which will soon make its entry into the Indian market. Xiaomi has also confirmed that the sales of Redmi 1S will happen only through flash sales and their official partner in India, Flipkart will be in charge of conducting it.
There were reports that said Xaiomi was selling off Mi 3 phones in India as a result of its falling demand in the Chinese market after a more advanced model Xiaomi Mi4 was released there. If that is true, the Mi3 series must have run out of stock resulting in the company stopping its sales as a face-saving tactics.
In total, Flipkart conducted six flash sales of Xiaomi Mi3 smartphone selling more than 95,000 units in India. The decision to stop the sales of Mi3 will create a divide in the market of Xaiomi as Redmi 1S is an entry level phone priced at Rs. 5999.
According to reports, the latest phone in the Mi series Xiaomi Mi4 is now trending in the Chinese market but it will hit Indian market only by the end of this year.
Xiaomi Mi3 was powered with Snapdragon 800 processor and a 2 GB RAM. The phone also had premium features like 5-inch Full HD display, 13 MP Camera with HD Recording and a 2 MP Front camera.
The Chinese manufacturers have been taken by surprise seeing the kind of response Mi3 got in India. The company officials said that after conducting proper market study of India they will launch more smartphone varieties for customers.
