BANGALORE: Lava is one of the Indian smartphone manufacturers that have not had much of a winning streak with their budget level smartphones. But, the company is not yet ready to give up as it has launched a new smartphone that targets people who like to take selfies.
The new Android KitKat based smartphone from Lava named Iris X5 is priced at Rs. 8,799. It is the first budget level Indian smartphone to sport a 5 MP auto focus front camera with LED flash.
One of the main issues faced by selfie enthusiasts in India was the lack of clarity in the front camera due to low Megapixel density. Lava is offering them a good deal with its selfie-focused smartphone Iris X5 which also features an 8 MP rear camera. Lava claims that the front camera of Iris X5 is light sensitive and can take crisp selfies even in low light conditions with the support of a built in flash.
The other features of Iris X5 are, 5-inch HD (720x1280p), IPS Full Lamination LCM display powered with a 1.2 GhZ processor, coupled with 1 GB Ram. Iris X5 has an inbuilt storage space of 8 GB and if it becomes insufficient, users can upgrade it up to 32 GB using external microSD slot.
Iris X5 is the successor of Iris X1 and has similar connectivity features like 3G, Wi-fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and USB OTG. One of the added features of X5 is its dual microphone with noise cancellation, giving superior quality speech sound during conversions.
Iris X5 comes in three different colors – White, Grey and Black, and will be available in stores starting from next week. The phone can be also bought through online retailers Amazon.in bundled along with a 16 GB free microSD memory card. Lava has added an Intelligent Flip cover to the phone that automatically turns on the sleep mode thus reducing the usage of its 2100mAH battery.
Lava Iris X5 will have a tough time competing with budget level phones from other Indian manufactures like Karbon, Spice and Micromax. But they all will have to face a single enemy from China, Xiaomi Redmi 1S, which has high end specifications that belittle all Indian budget level smartphones.
