BANGALORE: After the Hyderabadi journalist who started the ‘Rice Bucket Challenge’, now it’s the turn of Malayalam film star Mammootty to begin something that could go viral and make the world greener. The new initiative, yet again is inspired by the ‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’, which has by now reached the tipping point.
The new challenge is named “My Tree Challenge” and is aimed at making the world greener by planting more trees. The initiative was kick-started by superstar Mammootty, who is also the chief mentor and the goodwill ambassador of the “My Tree Challenge.”
Mammootty started the new initiative by planting a sapling and challenging Bollywood’s Shahrukh Khan and Tamil superstars Vijay and Surya to do the same. The official Facebook page of Mammootty posted the picture of him planting a sapling in a traditional Kerala dress.
Along with the image, Mammootty wrote the following words “As you all know ‘ALS Ice Bucket Challenge’ is being viral online and offline media. I proudly kick start a novel concept called ‘My Tree challenge.’ I request all my friends from the Malayalam Film Industry and all Facebook friends to join in for a good cause and make this world a greener place to live in. I challenge Shah Rukh Khan from Bollywood, Vijay and Surya from Tamil Film Industry to plant a sapling and join this Eco revolution,”
Mammootty also urged more people to plant trees wherever possible and inspire others, including friends, family and neighbors to do the same. He emphasised the important role of the young generation in maintaining a green environment for future generations.
Mammootty had earlier in the month started a yearlong social media campaign in association with Kerala Beverages Corporation titled ‘Get addicted to life’. This is part of an effort to bring down the usage of drugs among youngsters. ‘Get addicted to life’ campaign was followed up by many stars and fans by changing it their Facebook cover photos.
The new initiative has already become a talking point among fans and actors with newly wedded Fahad Fazil appealing his fans to support the cause of ‘My Tree Challenge.’
The My Tree Challenge was founded by Abdul Manaf , CEO, Easysoff Technologies and Imthias Kadeer, a travel photographer. Their objective is to give back mother nature its pristine beauty by planting a sapling and pouring a bucket of water to give life to it.
