BANGALORE: As was expected, Xiaomi has yet again done magic with its new range of smartphone – Xiaomi Redmi 1S, which was sold out within 4.2 seconds after its flash sale on Flipkart.
Xiaomi had 40,000 Redmi 1S units up for sale in Flipkart, but it seems like the number was way too less for smartphone zealots in India. The Facebook page of Xiaomi was pouring with complaints from people who failed to make into the lucky 40,000.
Xiaomi had earlier experienced the same issue with Mi3 phones, which they suspended after selling 95,000 units through Flipkart flash sale. Many believed that Xiaomi will learn from their past mistakes and stock more Redmi 1S phones. But their hopes were shattered as the ‘Out of Stock’ message appeared in Flipkart page after a lightning 4.2 seconds into the sale.
The official tweet of Hugo Barra, the Vice president of Xiaomi read:
Mi India: 40,000 Redmi 1S units out of stock in 4.2 secs today @Flipkart @MiIndiaOfficial
— Hugo Barra (@hbarra) September 2, 2014
Xiaomi Redmi 1S has a 1280×720 HD display with 312 ppi powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 quad-core processor, coupled with 1 GB Ram. Redmi S1 has an internal storage capacity of 8 GB, which can be expanded up to 64 GB using a microSD card slot. The phone sports a 2000mAh removable battery giving back up for a whole day.
Coming to the camera segment, Xiaomi Redmi 1S features an 8 MP rear camera with flash and a 1.6 MP front camera. Connectivity features of the phone include WiFi, Bluetooth, OTG and GPS.
In India, Xiaomi Redmi 1S is priced at Rs. 5,999 ($99) which is cheap for a phone that comes with features no other Indian manufacturers could offer till date.
Xiaomi is selling Redmi 1S in other Asian countries also, like Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore, and Taiwan. Xiaomi is planning to launch Redmi S1 in Philippines and Indonesia sometime next week.
Flipkart will come up with more flash sales of Xiaomi Redmi 1S in the coming weeks, and those who failed the first time around, can try again. If Xiaomi shows stinginess in stocking more phones, they will have to hear a lot more music from their fans in India.
