Outraged actress lashes out at The Times of India.

MUMBAI: On Sunday, India’s leading daily newspaper The Times of India tweeted online a photo taken last year with a link to a web photo gallery and caption: “OMG: Deepika Padukone’s cleavage show”.
Outraged by the crass form of entertainment adopted by the daily, Deepika lashed out on twitter.
“YES! I am a Woman. I have breasts AND a cleavage! You got a problem!!??”
It was an admirable move on Deepika’s part, to criticize crass journalism. The media is adept at putting up stories loaded with hot pictures and cleavage, midriff and leg show of actresses, and shirtless photos of hunky actors. The picture put up by TOI Entertainment, however, is a close up picture of her at an event. It seems to be the case of waiting for an actress to bend down or sit down to take a revealing shot.
The Times of India responded to her tweets by calling the gallery a “compliment”.
“@deepikapadukone, It’s a compliment! You look so great that we want to make sure everyone knew! :)”
The newspapers defence, however, clearly did not amuse or pacify anyone and actress Nimrat Kaur tweeted: “Dear @TOIEntertain… with this ‘compliment’ , I shudder to think who this ‘everyone’ is you’re reaching out to?”
The entire industry showed their support, with a storm of tweets from her fans and colleagues.
“Appalled….shocked and disgusted at the level of disrespect shown. Deepika or any women in the world cannot and should not stand for this!!” tweeted producer, director Karan Johar.
“I just read… about @deepikapadukone retort to cheap sensational journalism, well done girl,” actor Arjun Rampal wrote on Twitter.
“Kudos to Deepika for being a strong woman and speaking up!,” tweeted fashion designers Gauri & Nainika.
Posted by The Hindustan Times columnist Madhavan Narayanan,”They think @deepikapadukone has got a cleavage. I think she has got a spine”
The newspaper has since removed the original tweet about Padukone’s dress, which she wore to a film launch last year.

How much rights does an actress have when it comes to controlling her public image in the age of social media and the internet? After all it’s one thing to flaunt it and propel one’s career forward with their sexuality but is it hypocrisy to cry foul when someone else points it out as well ….?
