More cars bought, people watched more films: Delhi Govt.

NEW DELHI: People in Delhi grew richer in the fiscal year 2013-2014, bought more cars, watched more films in theaters, but drank less alcohol compared to the same period the previous cycle, according to the latest statistics by the Delhi government.
The per capita annual income in the national Capital increased to Rs. 2.19 lakh in 2013-14, as compared to Rs. 1.92 lakh in the previous fiscal, which is the highest among major states in the country, reported The Hindustan Times.
However, the percentage increase in per capita income has come down from 15.66% in 2012-13 to 14.06% this year.
A total of 5.19 lakh vehicles were registered in 2013-14 while 3.36 lakh vehicles were registered in 2012-13. The number of cars and jeeps registered in 2013-14 in Delhi stood at 26.29 lakh and motorcycles and scooters were 52.98 lakh.
According to a senior Delhi government official, around 2.49 crore cases of Indian Made Foreign Liquor, country liquor and beer were sold in the city during the year as against 2.55 crore last year.
The total numbers of telephone connections in Delhi were 4.57 crores in 2013 as compared to 4.34 crores in 2012, said the report. There are 151 cinemas theaters and multiplexes in the national capital offering 635 average shows per day with 1.15 lakh persons watching movies daily.
There were around 39.54 lakh domestic electricity consumers in 2013-14. The total numbers of consumers now is 48.97 lakh.
As regards water, per capita consumption in Delhi stands at 48 gallons per day with 16.02 lakh metered and 4.69 lakh un-metered connections. The generation of water in Delhi was 855 million gallons per day (MGD) in 2013, said the Times report.
There are 1,015 health institutions with 44,900 beds in Delhi as on December 31, 2013. About 225 maternity and child welfare centers, 11 TB clinics and 1223 dispensaries are functional in Delhi. “The total numbers of schools in Delhi were 5,453 in 2013-14 as compared to 5,155 during 2012-13. Around 43.86 lakh children were enrolled in these schools during 2013-14 as compared to 42.69 lakh during 2012-13.
