WASHINGTON, DC: California Governor Edmund G. ‘Jerry’ Brown Jr. has appointed Ravneet Kaur to the California Community Colleges Board of Governors.
Kaur, 20, of Riverside, was a barista at Starbucks and a tutor at Riverside City College in 2014, according to a press release. She was a volunteer at Hemet Valley Medical Center from 2012 to 2013 and at Sukh Sansar Hospital in Punjab, India in 2011.
Kaur, a Democrat, is a Region IX Governance and Internal Policy senator for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges and a member of the Riverside Community College District Honors Program and Associated Students of Riverside City College. This position does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
The spate of appointments also saw another Asian American, Ning Yang, 27, of Sacramento, reappointed to the California State Council on Developmental Disabilities, where she has served since 2013.
Yang, a Democrat, was a student representative at the California Community College Board of Governors from 2011 to 2013 and served as a senator and general assembly planning committee chair for the Student Senate for California Community Colleges from 2010 to 2011.
She served as a housing programs representative at the Community Development Commission of Mendocino County in 2010 and was student body president at Mendocino College from 2008 to 2009. This position too, does not require Senate confirmation and the compensation is $100 per diem.
