BENGALURU: Shahid Kapoor’s fans, mostly girls, would not like to believe the incredible news that may haunt them for a long time: the Haider hunk is indeed getting married to a girl 13 years younger to him, and that too to a student at Lady Shriram College in New Delhi, Mira Rajput, whom he barely knows.

Earlier in the week, there were unconfirmed reports about Kapoor getting married to a Delhi-based final year under-graduate student. Some popular Indian media, including India Today, came out with stories stating that the much-hyped story is just a farce, quoting a statement of a girl who claimed to be Rajput’s friend. That friend said the reports were untrue as Rajput considers Kapoor too old for her.

But now, the actor himself has taken things under control as he announced during a public function that “marriage is on the cards” in December, though there has been no engagement so far, as was also claimed by some publications.
Middle-aged Bollywood actors getting married to young women are not uncommon. Last year, Saif Ali Khan married Kareeena Kapoor who is 10 years younger. Going back, Dilip Kumar married actress Saira Banu in 1966 when he was aged 44 and she was just 22.
Kapoor, who recently won five national awards for his performance in critically acclaimed movie Haider said, “Engagement hasn’t happened but marriage is on the cards at the end of the year and it’s important to clarify it in front of the media. She’s just a regular girl and (I am ) a regular guy. Can’t say anything more. I am very happy.”
Kapoor had maintained strict silence on the issue, as rumors started piling up after a report appeared in The Times of India earlier this week about him getting married to Rajput in December. The report also said that both got engaged officially back in January.
Kapoor is one of those heartbroken real-life heroes of Bollywood. His relationships with Kareena Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra were a flop, like some of his movies. Lately, the actor was heard saying he would like to marry a girl outside the hectic schedules of Bollywood. It looks like he has finally found the love of his life in Mira Rajput.
When asked further about the relationship, Kapoor said, “I refrain from getting into details. I thought that since I am here today, it was important to acknowledge it in front of the media, so I am doing that.”
Kapoor is currently busy shooting his upcoming thriller movie Udta Punjab directed by Abhishek Chaubey and produced by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures in which Kareena Kapoor and Alia Bhatt play lead opposite roles.
