BENGALURU: Amazon introduced the latest Kindle Voyage for readers in India, at Rs. 16,499.
The product was launched at the Amazon India Fashion week Autumn-Winter, 2015. Amazon India is fast becoming a dominant player in the Indian e-commerce industry and now it is second only to Flipkart. The latest version of Kindle, which is exclusive for Amazon, is the 7th in its series and was first launched in the US.
The latest Kindle e-book reader comes with exciting features and boasts as the thinnest Kindle reader ever from Amazon. According to the founder and CEO of Amazon Jeff Bezos, “Our mission with Kindle is to make the device disappear, so you can lose yourself in the author’s world…Kindle Voyage is the next big step in this mission. With the thinnest design, highest resolution and highest contrast display, reimagined page turns, and all of the features that readers love about Kindle—books in seconds, no eyestrain or glare, readability in bright sunlight, and battery life measured in weeks, not hours—Kindle Voyage is crafted from the ground up for readers.”
Rajiv Metha, manager at Amazon India, said that the new Kindle Voyage was designed keeping in mind the issues reported by the users of earlier version of Kindle. This is reflected in the new Kindle as there is a visible difference in the display quality, thus reducing eyestrain or glare, and improving readability under bright light conditions.
Metha also said with free 3G data available in Kindle Voyage, users don’t have to rely on WiFi hotspots alone to get connected to the Internet. Kindle Voyage also touts a battery that can last for more than a week if used only for reading. Currently, Kindle users in India can download books from the selection of 3 million eBooks in the India Kindle Store.
Here are some of the new features added to Kindle Voyage:
High-resolution 300 ppi display
Kindle Voyage features a brighter, pixel rich, and high contrast display than any other Kindle. This new version of Kindle has a micro-etched glass display that diffuses light to eliminate glare and matches the feel of paper.
PagePress sensors with haptics
PagePress is a custom-designed force sensor made of carbon and silver. This sensor can react to a subtle increase of pressure, triggering a page-turn thus providing a haptic response reducing the distraction caused by pressing buttons.
Sleek yet durable designs
At only 7.6mm thin, Voyage is the thinnest Kindle ever. Kindle Voyage was designed using magnesium back and a specially reinforced glass front, making it both durable and sleek.
3G connectivity
Kindle Voyage has a built-in free 3G connectivity that uses the same wireless signals used by mobile phones, but with no monthly charges. The added convenience of 3G along with WiFi gives users an additional option to download books anytime even in places where WiFi hotspot is missing.
