WASHINGTON, DC: The chief executive officer of PepsiCo, Indra Nooyi, is the third highest paid woman CEO in the United States, according to a report published by USA Today,.
The data indicated Nooyi took home $22.5 million in fiscal 2014.
Nooyi, 59, was previously PepsiCo’s president and chief financial officer, and also served as a senior vice president of corporate strategy and a senior vice president of strategic planning. She became chair of the company’s board of directors in 2007 and was named as one of the 50 most powerful women and most connected business executives in the New York area by Crain’s in 2013.
Nooyi’s salary dwarves those of some of her male peers in the field of high-powered chief executives, Indian origin or otherwise. The Wall Street Journal revealed MasterCard inc. CEO Ajay Banga received $12.4 million in compensation in 2013, which was a 9.6 percent increase from the year before.
As president and chief executive of Adobe Systems Inc., one of the largest software manufacturers in the world, Shantanu Narayen made $17.9 million in total compensation, according to Salary.com, while Dinesh Paliwal, chairman, CEO, and president at electronics manufacturer Harman International, scrapes the relative bottom of the barrel with a take-home of $1.2 million.
Topping the list of best paid female CEOs was Marilyn Huson, head of defense contractor Lockheed Martin pulled down $33.7 million in 2014, making her the only female to break the top 10 earning the most as CEO among current CEOs in the Standard & Poor’s 500, according to a USA Today’s review of fiscal 2014 data so far from S&P Capital IQ.
There are still some major proxy statements due this week and next, according to the newspaper, all but three of the major current female CEOs have reported their pay and Hewson is the undisputed No. 1.
