WASHINGTON, DC: A husband and wife allegedly stabbed each other with a sword inside a hookah bar they co-owned in Hartford, Connecticut, early Wednesday morning, with the husband facing life-threatening injuries.
The duo, George Ayoub, 47, and his wife Najeh Frehi, 24, were taken to the hospital after apparently stabbing each other with a sword during a “violent domestic incident” at the 1001 Arabian Nights Hookah Lounge, reported NBC.
Police said Ayoub called 911 to report that his wife had stabbed him. The business was closed when police arrived and the door was locked. Ayoub was inside and tried to open the door but couldn’t reach it because of his wounds. Police said officers broke the glass to get to Ayoub and begin treatment. Responding officers found a large sword at the scene, reported NBC.
The Associated Press reported the couple live in nearby Farmington. They’ve been hospitalized and can’t be reached for comment.
Police Capt. Donald Melanson says authorities don’t know who the aggressor was but described the stabbing as domestic violence.
The Hartford Courant reported Frehi was found down the street from the hookah bar, outside 96 Park Road, with serious stab wounds to her shoulders and cuts to her hands, police said.
Frehi and Ayoub were being treated at St. Francis Hospital and Medical Center on Wednesday, and Melanson said he expects both to be held overnight. He said hospital staff told them that Ayoub’s injuries are life-threatening.
Although Ayoub told police that his wife stabbed him, detectives are working to determine what led up to the assaults, reported the Courant.
Police have been able to interview Frehi. The only information they have from Ayoub are his initial comments to dispatchers during the 911 call.
