WASHINGTON, DC: An Indian American woman died in Anderson County, South Carolina, after she was shot by a gunman in an attempted robbery at a BP gas station she was working in, the local Fox Carolina reported.
The report, quoting the Anderson County Coroner’s Office, said Radu-Laben Patel died at the Greenville Memorial Hospital Saturday morning.
The attempted robbery of the gas station, where Patel was working as a clerk, occurred around 10:30 pm Thursday night.
The BP gas station, owned by the victim’s husband, is on state highway 153, which connects US Highway 123 and I-85.
An autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday, the report said.
Anderson County deputies have asked for help identifying the gunman, it said.
A lieutenant at the Sheriff’s Office told Fox Carolina that Patel was found “lying on the floor with an apparent gunshot wound to the face/head area” by a customer.
A surveillance video, according to the report, “revealed the suspect to be a man wearing a light-colored floppy fishing hat, dark pants, tennis shoes and a white T-shirt with designs on both the front and the back.”
The man reportedly purchased cigars before demanding money from Patel, but he fled after shooting her without taking any money.
