BENGALURU: A sting operation carried out by the Indore, Madhya Pradesh, police has led to the arrest of a rapist gang, who have confessed of raping as many as 45 girls and women in the span of two years.
According to the police, the rapist gang operated at the iconic Kajligarh picnic spot, located 16 KM from Indore. They raped an average of two women each month for two years.
Most of the victims of rape were tourist couples who chose this particular romantic tourist spot to spend time in privacy. But, unfortunately, they became soft targets as the rapists first surrounded the couple, handcuffed the male, and then took turns to rape the female.
They took the video of the abuse and later used it to blackmail the victim by threatening to upload it on the internet if they informed the police about the ordeal. The gang also made regular visits to the victim’s houses and further intimidated them and demanded money.
The rapists continued to get away with their nefarious operations until some students who were robbed by them gave a tipoff to the Indore police who were investigating a case related to robbery.
The gang confessed to the raped after they were arrested. The gang members include an underage boy. They had only targeted couples visiting the Kajligarh spot.
A similar case was uncovered by the Mumbai police back in 2013 when a journalist on assignment with a male colleague was raped by a gang at the deserted Shakti Mills compound in Lower Parel. During the police interrogation, the members confessed that they raped a dozen more women, who came to the spot unwittingly.
