Madhuchandan Chikkadevaiah, a 37-year-old software engineer who gave up his high-profile job in the US is now literally saving the lives of farmers in Karnataka’s Mandya, an area that was once known as the capital of farmers’ suicides.
The success story of Chikkadevaiah began when the engineer decided to return back to India after working for many IT companies in different parts of the world. Once in India, he launched Mandya Organic Farmers Cooperative Society, with 270 farmers, in 2015.
He also started a retail outlet called Organic Mandya, at Bengaluru-Mysuru highway, where farmers can sell their organic products profitably. It combined the efforts of farmers with marketing groups to benefit and sustain organic producers and create awareness in the market about the health benefits of organic products, reported Rediff.com.
Chikkadevaiah’s enterprise is also providing assistance to organic farmers to solve their farming-related problems using latest technologies. The society works with farmers towards improving their livelihood by making farming a profitable occupation.
Rediff.com quoted the entrepreneur as saying “I feel proud to be a farmer today. To be able to lead a healthier and happier life is a dream come true. No job can give the immense satisfaction that farming can offer you. We tend to complicate our lives, take up stressful jobs and never try to lend a helping hand to anyone. With things falling in place as we planned, I hope to see Mandya district a fully chemical-free zone in the next 5 years.”
He added: “Indians spend the least on food but they like to visit the most expensive hospitals, instead they should spend more on good food and remain healthy. If you spend more on quality food, you will not fall ill. Food should be your medicine and not the other way round.”
According to his LinkedIn profile, Chikkadevaiah studied at the University of Mysore and started his career as associate quality assurance engineer in RelQ, in 2000. He has worked in countries like Israel, the UK, the Philippines, Africa and the US for the last 15 years. He worked with companies such as CoreObjects, Ness Technologies and Wipro Technologies. He is also the co-founder of Verifaya Corporation that delivers automated software testing solutions to companies, founded in 2005.
