A shocking video has gone viral on the social media which shows a woman in Uttar Pradesh’sBijnor district brutally assaulting her elderly mother-in-law.
Social activist Kundan Srivastava has shared the video on his Facebook page and appealed to chief minister Akhilesh Yadav to take necessary action against the culprit, named Sangeeta Jain.
The CCTV footage, just over a minute long captured on January 5, shows Jain using a cloth to strangle her 70-year-old mother-in-law Raj Rani Jain and then mercilessly beating her.
The camera was installed by her estranged husband Sandeep Jain few days back.
Jain has been arrested on charges of attempt to murder after her husband showed the shocking video to the police.
According to The New Indian Express, Jain had some differences with her husband and mother-in-law, and their divorce case was pending in a local court.
Debjit Chowdhry, ADG (Law and Order) said, “We will take legal action against her. Already an FIR has been registered and our police officers have visited the site. We are looking at the CCTV footage and further legal action will be taken. There is a lot of infighting amongst the family – husband-wife, mother-in-law and wife – it is a family matter and now police is in the picture,” he added.
Meanwhile, Jain had also registered a written complaint against her husband Sandeep Jain under the Dowry Act, according to SHO Nehtaur, Chandra Kant Yadav.
He was also in police custody for a day on January 4, on charges of dowry harassment.
