Pratyusha Banerjee’s boyfriend Rahul Raj Singh got interim bail from Bombay High Court on Tuesday in connection with the suicide of the actress. The High Court on Tuesday granted him anticipatory bail till April 18.
The actor has been accused of abetting Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide. A session court in Bombay had earlier denied granting him anticipatory bail following which he moved the high court.
The court has also imposed a condition on Raj that he must attend the police station every day from 11 am to 1 pm till April 18. He was granted bail on a personal surety of $441.
The public prosecutor requested the court not grant him interim bail and argued that Rahul Raj had got himself admitted to the hospital to avoid attending the police station.
The court, however, noted that the case was only under abetment to suicide and not under murder.
The actor continues to remain in the hospital even after getting the interim bail.
The police have recorded the statements of 16 people in connection with Pratyusha Banerjee’s suicide. But the police is yet to record Raj’s statement.
“The police can move him to a public hospital if they wish, but he needs to keep seeing a mental health professional,” Dr. Santosh Goel of Shree Sai Hospital in Kandivali where Rahul is presently admitted, told Times of India.
Pratyusha was found dead in her apartment, which she shared with Rahul, on April 1. There were reports that the two were seriously considering about getting married, but some close friends of Pratyusha now say that Rahul was cheating on her.
Pratyusha’s parents had also come forward with allegations against Rahul Raj. They said that he used to abuse her and she was denied access to friends and family at times.
