The GOP presidential frontrunner Donald Trump is expanding his brand name in India, even as he has periodically bashed India and foreign workers from India on H-1B visas who take up American jobs, in stump speeches on the campaign trail.
The Trump Organization has partnered with India real estate equity firm IREO to build an office tower in Gurgaon or Gurugram, reported The Times of India.
The 600,000-700,000 sq ft office building will be constructed on Gurgaon’s Golf Course Extension Road.
“This new tower will mark the third development in India for Trump,” said a press release issued by the firm.
The building will be designed by Norman Foster-led architectural design firm, Foster + Partners and will be built alongside IREOs 500-acre commercial complex. The building, after completion, will be the tallest one in the area.
“We have enjoyed tremendous success in India with our existing properties in Mumbai and Pune, and we are thrilled to add yet another incredible development to our portfolio. IREO is truly a fantastic group and we are looking forward to pushing the boundaries together to create what will soon be one of the most exciting and sought after commercial towers in India and beyond,” Donald Trump Jr., executive vice president of Development and Acquisitions, was quoted as saying by the Times of India.
“This is the latest addition to the Trump Organization’s portfolio of world-class properties further showcasing the amazing strength and demand for the Trump Brand in India and around the globe,” he added.
IREO has been in talks with the Trump organization for a long time.
“Now is the right time as Gurgaon today is short on high-quality commercial office space,” Lalit Goyal, managing director, IREO, told the Economic Times.
The Trump Organization had tied up with two Indian firms for two residential projects in Mumbai and Pune. The company is also looking for opportunities in cities like Bengaluru, Hyderabad, and Goa.
