A 30-year old former sex worker in Australia was sentenced to life in prison for murdering her fiancé of Indian-origin.
The Brisbane Supreme Court jury found Melissa Leigh Shaw as a “Trojan horse” who murdered her Indian-born fiancé Shyam ‘Sam’ Dhody in Queensland’s Gold Coast conspiring along with her on-again, off-again lover Adam Gooley.
The incident that led to the murder happened back in 2013 when Dhody was shot in the head 10 times at his home at Gilston in the Gold Coast.
According to the prosecutor, Dennis Kinsella Dhody met Shaw while she was working at a Molendinar brothel. Four months after their meeting in 2013, Dhody, a bankrupt businessman, died after being mercilessly shot in the head.
According to Australian media, the 30-year-old former sex worker wept while her sentence was being read and dabbed her eyes with a tissue.
The court observed that the Shaw and Shyam were involved in a violent relationship. It also found that in an earlier instance, Shaw, a mother of two tried to take his life by sending an assailant armed with a crowbar.
While pronouncing Shaw’s life in jail sentence, Justice Peter Flanagan said she had been involved in a cowardly act and will be eligible for parole only after 20 years.
Gooley was earlier convicted and sentenced to life imprisonment by the court.
“Clearly she’s disappointed with the result, as anyone would be in her circumstances, and it’s come as a big, big shock to her,” said Shaw’s lawyer Jason Jacobs to ABC News.
