The Tamil movie industry and politics are so tightly interlaced that the leaders of the opposition and the ruling party in the state, Karunanidhi and Jayalalitha, respectively, were once associated with the Tamil film industry.
The first teaser of the upcoming superstar Rajinikanth movie ‘Kabali’ was released on Saturday with fans going crazy about it. The teaser has got over 10 million views on YouTube till now and thanks to the humungous fan following of Rajinikanth, the producer didn’t have to spend a penny for its promotion.
As the state is gearing up for elections this summer, for a few DMK supporters the trailer was another tool to attack the opposition as they overlaid the punch dialogue of Rajinikanth with political trolls hitting at the AIADMK, attracting the wrath of Rajini fans who feels their superstar was hijacked.
Even though it is evident that the edited version of the Kabali trailer was the handy work of some of its members or supporters, the official DMK camp denied any involvement in doctoring the original trailer.
A source in the DMK campaign team was quoted by Economic saying: “Yes, we were aware of someone having released an edited version of the teaser supporting the DMK but we had nothing to do with it.”
In the meanwhile, the tweaked teaser of ‘Kabali’ was soon removed from YouTube but the same version appeared in other accounts.
The much-awaited trailer of superstar Rajnikanth starrer ‘Kabali’ was released on Sundaywith the actor appearing as a salt and pepper haired gangster along with a host of other actors, including Radhika Apte who plays opposite to “Thalaivar”.
Within the next two hours, the trailer was watched by over 2 lakh people and 22 hours after the trailer was uploaded over five million people watched it on YouTube, breaking all the existing records.
In the doctored trailer of Kabali, Thailaivar Rajinikanth can be heard calling himself ‘DMK’ instead of Kabali and punch dialogue is tweaked to urge voters to support him against an incompetent ‘AIADMK’.
