The Uttar Pradesh police arrested a controversial ‘godman’ on Tuesday for sexually exploiting childless women and making videos of the acts. Ram Shankar Tiwari alias Parmanand was on the run for 15 days before the police arrested him.
Parmanand’s follower and aide Arvind was also arrested from Barabanki, UP. Parmanand was arrested when he was trying to creep into his ashram in Harai village, reported PTI.
The controversial godman sexually exploited childless woman by pretending to help them cure their infertility. He filmed all his activities and used it to blackmail the women.
His criminal activities came to light when a video he filmed leaked and went viral on social media. Following the incident, the police registered a case against him and raided his ashram. The police have recovered many CDs from the ashram.
The ashram was established by the self-styled godman 30 years back. His popularity increased day-by-day as he guaranteed childless women that he would cure their infertility.
Two people have come forward to file a complaint against him. On Monday night, a woman filed a complaint of rape and his driver Sushil Avasthi also filed another one.
“He used to choose simple bhakts to lure and trap in his ashram. He had installed CCTV cameras in his ashram and used to watch the videos later,” SP Abdul Hamid was quoted as saying by India Today.
