Director Anurag Kashyap who did not want a single cut in ‘Raman Raghav 2.0’ might have to compromise when it comes to “Udta Punjab” as the Censor Board has put on hold the screening of the movie.
According to reports, the Censor Board found excess swearing in the movie, which deals with the subject of drug abuse in Punjab.
An NDTV report claims that the Censor Board took the decision last week and Kashyap is planning to file an appeal in court against the order of the Censor Board but it seems like the director is ready to accept a few cuts.
A source within the Information and Broadcasting ministry was quoted by NDTV saying “We don’t get involved in these issues directly. Previously too the tribunal has intervened on appeals.”
Some reports say that the decision of the Censor Board is politically motivated as the state of Punjab is gearing up for elections next year.
The film, starring Shahid Kapoor, as a foul mouthed rock star who is a drug addict, also has Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor in leading roles. The movie is set to release on June 17.
Anurag Kashyap had earlier said in an interview his creative process has been affected by the censorship.
