Kerala police arrested a 36-year-old techie from Alappuzha district for allegedly killing his father, an NRI who was based in the United States, on a visit to India, over a property dispute.
The police have arrested Sherin John after he confessed that he had killed his father Joy V John, 68, who lived in the US for three decades, reported The Times of India.
According to the police, Sherin John allegedly killed his father, cut his body into pieces and dumped the parts at different locations. Joy’s hand and legs were recovered from Pampa River, near Mangalam bridge. The head was found at a warehouse in Chingavanam and other body parts were recovered from a garbage pile in Changanacherry.
“The recovered body parts will be sent for DNA testing and other scientific analysis. As per our preliminary investigation, property dispute between the father and son had led to the murder,” Alappuzha district police chief B Asok Kumar was quoted as saying by The Times of India.
The body parts were recovered after the police started a search after Sherin John’s confession. He was working with an IT company in Technopark in Thiruvananthapuram.
The police said that Joy used to beat up Sherin from childhood onwards and refused to give him the share of his property. Joy continued abusing Sherin even after he grew older. This led to the brutal murder.
Last week, Joy took Sherin along to go to Thiruvananthapuram for repairing an air conditioner. While traveling in a car, Sherin fired four rounds of bullets on Joy, cut the body and dumped it at various places.
John’s wife Mariamma lodged a complaint with the police after he went missing on last Wednesday.
The police have recovered the pistol used by Sherin to kill Joy. The pistol was stolen by Sherin. Till Sunday, he refused to reveal the places where the body parts were dumped. It was only after the police questioned him continuously for two days, that he finally relented.
A case of murder has been registered against Sherin.
