A 65-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by four people who alleged she was practicing black magic in Bohanda village in Khunti district, in Jharkhand.
The police have recovered the body of Mangri Mudain who was murdered on Thursdayevening by the group, reported The Times of India. The relatives of Mudain didn’t complain about the incident as the accused allegedly offered them compensation.
The accused are identified as Gangu Munda, Soma Munda, Shanik Munda and Bhadwa Munda who have been absconding after the incident.
According to the police, Gangu Munda along with other three entered the house of Mundain’s daughter Bodir and son-in-law Soma, dragged her out of the house and beat her to death about 100 meters away from the house.
The police said that Gangu Munda’s wife was suffering from an unknown illness for a long time. Someone from the village told him that the black magic of Mudain was the reason behind the illness.
The village panchayat intervened after the incident and asked the relatives not to report the incident and the accused offered to pay them compensation. But Mudain’s daughter was compelled to file a complaint as the accused went absconding.
Mudain’s husband Aachu Munda was also killed by a mob for practicing black magic.
A middle-aged woman was allegedly attacked by a mob in the state of Assam last year after being branded as a witch.
