A group of Sikh bikers in Canada raised above $100000 in a 12000-kilometer long bike ride to spread awareness about childhood cancer. The amount raised by the group will be donated to Canadian Cancer Society, reported CTV News.
Twenty-four members of the Sikh Motorcycle Club traveled 1200 kilometers a day on 13 bikes through B.C., Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and Quebec, and Montreal. The two-week long journey was completed on Sunday.
The club members met community members and appeared on local TV channels and radios to appeal the people to donate to fight the deadly disease. The money raised was much above the target of $60000.
More than 70 individuals and organizations contributed to the fundraising initiative. “Every city they went to the Sikh community, the non-Sikh communities, everyone was cooperative of them,” club founder Harjinder Singh Thind told CTV News.
“It was a safe trip, no accidents, no trouble on the motorcycles, everything was fine,” he added.
The bikers went through unpleasant weather conditions with hail and thunderstorm following throughout the journey.
“We thought about those kids that are in need that need that money and so that gave us energy and we kept fighting through it,” said rider Charnjit Dhadda.
Apart from raising awareness about cancer, the group also had a mission to bring communities together through their ride.
