Music maestro AR Rahman is all set to perform at United Nations General Assembly on the occasion of India’s 70th Independence Day.
Rahman will become the second Indian musician to perform at UN after veteran Carnatic singer MS Subbulakshmi. Subbulakshmi had performed in UN general assembly 50 years ago on October 1966.
This year, on June 21 renowned spiritual leader Sadhguru had led a yoga session in connection with the International Yoga Day celebrations which was attended by top UN officials, ambassadors, diplomats and yoga practitioners.
Rahman’s performance is likely to span the range of his creations and perhaps include a unique musical rendition of Rabindranath Tagore’s ‘Gitanjali’.
The 49-year-old musician has got international recognition when he bagged two Oscars in a year, 2009, for Danny Boyle’s ‘Slumdog Millionaire’. He had performed live on 22 February 2009, the night it won the award for Best Original Song.
Rahman, who also known as ‘The Mozart of Madras’, had also won two awards at the 52nd Annual Grammy for his song ‘Jai Ho’ from the same film and bagged BAFTA and Golden Globe too.
