‘Rustom’ likely to be Kumar’s fastest entry into elite club.
With over Rs. 80 crore collection in just six days, the Akshay Kumar-starrer Rustom is all set to enter the Rs. 100-crore club by this weekend. According to media reports, the movie has collected 82.28 crore in first six days of release from India alone.
Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted on Thursday, “#Rustom Fri 14.11 cr, Sat 16.43 cr, Sun 19.88 cr, Mon 17.81 cr, Tue 7.67 cr, Wed 6.38 cr. Total: ₹ 82.28 cr. India biz. SUPER!”
Though the movie faced a drop in the collection on Wednesday, several reports said that Rustom would be Akshay Kumar’s fastest entrant in the 100-crore club. Rustom has already broken the first-week collection records of Kumar’s previous movies Housefull 3, and Airlift.
Airlift made the 100 crore club entry in 10 days and Housefull 3 took 13 days for the achievement. Rustom would be Kumar’s sixth film to enter the club after Airlift, Housefull 3, Rowdy Rathore, Housefull 2 and Holiday.
The movie was expected to earn between Rs. 8 and 10 crore on Wednesday, which was a bank holiday, but collected only Rs. 6.38 crore. As Thursday is a holiday on account of Rakshabandhan, the collection is expected to go up.
A factor favorable to the Tinu Suresh Desai-directed venture is that it does not face much competition. Though Hrithik Roshan’s Mohenjo Daro was released along with Rustom, the latter managed to outpace the former in the box office battle.
Though the competition between the two films has been termed as a clash between the two superheroes, Akshay Kumar denied it saying he do not give it a word clash.
“It is not a clash. Do not give it a word clash. Clash is a wrong word (and) we do not clash with each other. We always pray that movies should run at the box office, if the films do well, actors will also do well and eventually the film industry will run,” he told PTI in an interview.
