HR department rolled out a four-page memo.
The authorities of Princeton University in New Jersey have largely wiped the word “man” from its vocabulary.
As reported by the conservative campus news outfit ‘The College Fix’ , the university’s Human Resource department has ordered its staff to stop using the term ‘man’ as a part of an effort to remove ‘gendered words’ for fostering an inclusive environment.
The famed Ivy League institution rolled out a four-page memo that aims filled with examples of gender-neutral terminology that must be used in official school documents.
Instead of using ‘man’, employees are told to use words such as human beings, individual or people. Instead of ‘man and wife’ use spouses or partners. Switch out ‘man made’ with artificial, handmade or manufactured, the guidelines state.
“Consistent with style guidelines issued by Princeton’s Office of Human Resources and Office of Communications, and as endorsed by the Institutional Equity Planning Group as a preferred University practice, HR has developed these gender inclusive style guidelines, to be utilised by all HR staff members in HR communications, policies, job descriptions, and job postings,” the memo is quoted as saying.
“These communication guidelines reflect the inclusive culture and policies at Princeton University,” said John Cramer, Princeton’s director of media relations.
“These are guidelines issued by HR, developed in cooperation with Institutional Equity Planning Group for communication and job postings… Students are not mandated to follow this policy,” Cramer added.

Chairman/Chairwoman -> Chairperson. The word chairperson ends in son. Sons are male. I suggest Chairperchild.
Disgusting! So we’re no longer allowed to have any ‘gender identity’? I’m a WOMAN – and proud of it! We are truly headed in the WRONG direction the more we remove any means of personal identity – where everyone is just an “it”.
