“Pakistan was well aware of the US policy on the Kashmir issue”
The US State Department on Tuesday expressed concern over the human rights situation in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) and the country’s Balochistan province.
US State Department spokesperson Mark C Toner said that the US was concerned the “human rights situation there and had reported it for several years in our Human Rights report”.
“We do have concerns about the human rights situations there (PoK), the US has called for working out differences peacefully and through a “valid political process,” he said.
Toner also said that the US had always urged Pakistan to work out differences in its region peacefully and through a political process. He also said that Pakistan was well aware of the US policy on the Kashmir issue.
“We’ve obviously – are always urging all parties in Pakistan to work out their differences peaceably and through a valid political process,” he added while responding to a question about Pakistan Army’s oppression in Pakistan-held Kashmir and Balochistan during a press briefing in Washington.
Earlier this month, protesters took to streets in the Gilgit-Baltistan region against human rights abuses and brutality by the Pakistani security forces.
