Anthony Nazaire was a sophomore on a full scholarship.
A 19-year-old student of Ithaca College was stabbed to death and another was injured during a fight that occurred early Sunday morning on the Cornell University campus, reported CNN.
The deceased was identified as Anthony Nazaire, 19, of Brooklyn, a sophomore studying business administration at IC. Though Nazaire was taken to the Cayuga Medical Center immediately, he succumbed to the injuries at the hospital.
The injured, who has not been identified was airlifted to SUNY Upstate University Hospital, where he was treated for his wounds.
The police said that a large fight happened in front of Olin Hall at around 1:57 a.m. on Sunday where the students were conducting a program in connection with orientation week.
Responding to the fight Cornell Police and Ithaca Police Department officers reached the spot and found two students who had been stabbed.
According to IPD Officer Jamie Williamson, hundreds of college students had gathered to attend the event and several physical altercations had happened outside the hall.
When the medical personnel arrived at the spot, both the students were bleeding onto the grass. They tried to resuscitate Nazaire for more than 15 minutes using CPR. But they weren’t able to revive him at the scene.
Cornell Police said that they have recovered a weapon from the scene, but did not specify what kind of weapon it was.
Nazaire, who lived on Newkirk Avenue in the Flatbush neighborhood, attended Brooklyn Theatre Arts High School in nearby Canarsie. According to a report in New York Post, his godfather, Jacques Dorsainvil, 61, said Nazaire had just returned to Ithaca to begin his sophomore year.
Nazaire was studying business administration on a full scholarship.
“He was always about success and always about moving forward. You could always hold to him. He was one who always kept his word and was reliable. He wanted to get somethingtomorrow that he didn’t have yesterday. He wanted to get money to take care of people around him,” Steven Cox, a sophomore from Queens studying math and economics at IC said about Nazaire.
Cox lived in a room neighboring Anthony Nazaire in East Tower at IC during their first year at college.
The police have started a homicide investigation. The police said that anyone who has witnessed the events or has captured a video are encouraged to contact the police.
According to media reports, Sunday’s homicide is the first in the city of Ithaca since 2011.
