‘Death noodles’ is the hottest noodles in the world.
A British chef went deaf for a few minutes after eating ‘death noodles,’ the hottest noodles in the world. According to a report in Mirror, Ben Sumadiwiria, 22, from London, had to soak his head in water as he couldn’t bear the heat.
The ‘death noodles’ have 100 bird’s eye chilies crushed together giving the dish a Scoville rating of 20 million compared with hot Tabasco which is just 5,000 on the scale. Scoville rating is the measure of hotness of a food item.
“This was definitely the hottest thing I’ve ever eaten. Within seconds of tasting them I was sweating and feeling sick,” said Ben Sumadiwiria.
Sumadiwiria decided to eat the noodles when he found it in a restaurant in Jakarta, Indonesia. He started sweating and had to remove his shirt immediately after scoffing the noodles.
The chef became dizzy and went deaf for two minutes. The intense heat in his mouth continued even after taking half-a-dozen glasses of water, milkshake and ate a cold banana.
“We’ve done the calculations and these are definitely the hottest noodles in the world. They are definitely the hottest commercially available dish. I’m not really partial to spicy food but when somebody throws down a challenge I just can’t say no,” said Sumadiwiria.
“I went temporarily deaf and my mouth was burning for hours afterward,” he added.
Sumadiwiria even threw up many times outside in the street. “You don’t really taste the noodles, it’s just pure heat with a tiny hint of noodles,” he added.
Born to Indonesian parents, Ben Sumadiwiria is a full-time chef and a video maker who posts extreme food videos on his YouTube channel Awesome Eats. Some of his videos include ‘drinking cobra blood and eating snake.
