Garg’s wife Geetanjali was shot dead in 2013.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), on Thursday, arrested Ravneet Garg, Civil Judge in Kaithal, Haryana, in connection with the alleged murder of his wife Geetanjali Garg in 2013, reported The Times of India.
The body of Geetanjali Garg was found at police lines in Gurgaon with multiple bullet injuries on 17, July 2013 under mysterious circumstances. Ravneet’s licensed revolver was also found near the body.
The incident was registered as a suicide case at Civil Lines police station, Gurgaon on July 20, 2013. But the investigation was handed over to the CBI by the state government after the parents and brother of Geetanjali approached then Haryana chief minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda seeking a fair inquiry into the murder.
The family alleged that Geetanjali was harassed by her husband for dowry and things worsened after the birth of their first daughter.
“The arrested accused was produced today in the Court of Special Judicial Magistrate, CBI Cases, at Panchkula (Haryana) and was remanded to five days police custody,” a CBI spokesperson was quoted as saying by The Indian Express.
Ravneet has been charged under sections 302 and 34 (murder committed with common intention), of the Indian Penal Code.
