Stunning discovery could be made on Monday.
NASA will convene a meeting on Monday to share some surprising activity that the agency has found on Europa, a moon of Jupiter.
Europa has been suspected to have water on its surface for long. If the scientists have found water on its surface, it will increase the possibility of finding life on the moon of Jupiter. The scientists working on the Juno Probe have also shared same views.
“Astronomers will present results from a unique Europa observing campaign that resulted in surprising evidence of activity that may be related to the presence of a subsurface ocean on Europa,” a NASA statement read.
NASA has been observing Europa from Hubble Space Telescope and the results of the analysis will be disclosed in the press meet.
“We think Jupiter’s icy moon Europa has a subsurface ocean of liquid water; and because everywhere on Earth that we’ve found water, we’ve also found life, this is a good place for us to search,” Juno project scientist Steve Levin was quoted as saying by Express.
It is believed that there is liquid water under the icy shell of Europa and if it touches the rocky mantle at the middle, it will lead to several chemical reactions.
“The cycling of oxygen and hydrogen in Europa’s ocean will be a major driver for Europa’s ocean chemistry and any life there, just as it is on Earth,” NASA planetary scientist Steve Vance said in May.
