In yet another case of negligent ambulance service, a pregnant woman died awaiting ambulance in Aamtalai village under Amla block, Madhya Pradesh, reported Pradesh 18.
25-year-old Punam Nigam took her last breath on Wednesday after waiting for the ambulance for hours.
Nigam’s parents had called up108 ambulance service as soon as she developed labor pain on Wednesday evening. But, the response they received was hopeless.
Left with no other option, Nigam, and her family decided to wait for the ambulance that did not come.
After an hour of labor, Nigam gave birth to a baby girl. But, she developed pain even after the delivery and the family again contacted the ambulance service. Though the operator promised to send an ambulance soon, it did not come. Waiting for the ambulance for a long time, Nigam died on Wednesday night.
Finally, the ambulance reached the destination when the family was preparing for the last rites of Nigam. The angered family stopped the vehicle and the driver had to flee the area to escape manhandling.
The family alleged that even the ASHA worker in the locality, who had the responsibility of assisting the pregnant woman, didn’t extend any help when Nigam was in serious condition.
The authorities have launched an investigation and promised that the guilty would be punished. The newborn baby was admitted to Amla community health center later on.
