WASHINGTON, DC: South Asian singer-composer Adnan Sami will perform at Warner Theater in Washington, DC, Friday.
The concert is part of the 43-year-old singer’s multi-city US-tour, which kicked off in Houston March 23. Other cities covered include Chicago, Boston, Seattle, Essex Fells in New Jersey, and Cupertino, in California.
The concert in Washington is being presented by Intense Entertainment and the event planning firm Moment.
This will the first concert of Sami in Washington in eight years, said Manish Sood of Intense Entertainment.
The concert was originally scheduled for March 15th, but had to be canceled because of logistical problems. Sood said he decided to reschedule it to April 12th because of “popular demand.”
Tickets are available on the Intense Entertainment website. Ticket prices range from $39 to $299. According to the promoters, those who purchase the $299 tickets will get an opportunity to interact with the musician.
The music of the London-born Sami, who trained under Santoor maestro Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, reflects both his western upbringing and eastern roots.
Several of his songs from various albums and films, among them Teri yaad, Tu sirf mera mehboob and Bheegi, bheegi raat have become blockbuster hits.
From tabla maestro Zakir Husain to composer A.R. Rahman, Sami has also collaborated with a number illustrious musicians worldwide.
He has also acted in the Urdu-laguage Pakistani film Sargam, a musical released in 1995, along with his ex-wife Zeba Bakhtiar.
The Sami concert is not the only South Asia-related entertainment show at Warner Theater this week. On Saturday, there will be a Bhangra Blowout.
