MUMBAI: December is all about film festivals across India. If December 6th marked the inaugural day of the International Film Festival of Kerala, then the coming days will see the Chennai International Film Festival and the Bengaluru International Film Festival pan out.
Mumbai already celebrated its 2013 film festival, in October, in a grand way. Now, its sister city, Navi Mumbai is all geared up for its first ever international film festival – the Navi Mumbai International Film Festival (NMIFF), scheduled to begin next month.
Padmashree D Y Patil Auditorium, one of the largest in the city, will play as the venue for the three days of the festival, scheduled from January 31st – February 2nd.
NMIFF Chairman and Founder Sachin Khanna said that the aim of this festival is to foster global cinema and to give global exposure to budding filmmakers. The festival, open to worldwide film makers, will be a platform for movie lovers to witness some of the finest films of various genres from across the globe.
The 22 films to be screened have been slotted into three sections: student shorts, professional shorts and feature films. They will include ad films, short films, animation, documentaries, music videos and social awareness films.
The films selected as winners, by an esteemed jury panel, will be rewarded with cash prize and trophies.
Khanna added, “NMIFF is determined to providing an international platform to talented film makers. We want Navi Mumbai to be highlighted as an international spot which is yet deprived of any festival like this. This will expose local talent too on global map. This is our first year and we have already received an overwhelming response and are looking forward to a great three day festival showcasing some of the best films.”
