A boon for the actress’s flailing career.

WASHINGTON, DC: Bollywood siren Mallika Sherawat is set to make a splash in Hollywood, as the actress recently announced her involvement with the hit CBS primetime cop series “Hawaii Five-0.”
“Shooting for @HawaiiFive0CBS since last few days in Hawaii,” Sherawat tweeted, later adding that she is excited to be a part of the show. The series is a remake of the older “Hawaii Five-0,” which ran from 1968-1980, and is about a small group of police officers who solve crimes in the US state of Hawaii. The program is shot largely in the capital city of Honolulu, located on the island of Oahu, with shooting also occurring in Los Angeles.
Despite appearing in several Bollywood movies over the past several years — most famously, the film Double Dhamaal, in which she danced to the hit number “Jalebi Bai” — Sherawat has been focusing her efforts on making a name for herself in the West. And while Sherawat has successfully broken through a couple of time, such as her appearance with Jackie Chan in 2005’s The Myth, her efforts have been largely unsuccessful and were recently derided by her Murder co-star Emraan Hashmi on an episode of Koffee With Karan.
With “Hawaii Five-0,” however, Sherawat may finally have gotten her big break. The show has been running since 2010, and is currently in its fourth season. Ratings have been generally solid, and despite seeing a small dip during its third season, has rebounded nicely during its current run. The show has also received positive critical notices, and was nominated for Best Supporting Actor at the 2010 Golden Globes for Scott Caan’s performance.
There’s no word yet on what role Sherawat would play on the show, or whether or not she would be a guest star or a regular, but indications point to her being more than just a one-episode character. She is currently in the midst of filming, so there’s no timeline as to when her episodes may finally see the light of TV broadcast. Sherawat was supposed to be present at last weekend’s Academy Awards, but was unable to because she was in Hawaii shooting the TV show.
