WASHINGTON, DC: Unknown assailants gunned down indo-Canadian gangster Tejinder Singh Malli on the night of March 10, killing him and injuring one of his associates who was with him.
Malli, 29, was shot in a drive-by shooting on West Cordova Street, near the Shaw Tower in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. He was in a car along with an unknown 28 year-old man when the car came under fire from an unknown party. Malli’s associate was able to get out of the car and walk a few yards before collapsing, where first responders found him. Malli was discovered in the car, and later pronounced dead.
The shooting was targeted specifically at Malli, whose life had been threatened several times by members of rival gangs over the past few years. Police had even warned Malli that his life was in danger, but these warnings were never heeded. Police are saying that there were more than one gunman, but they do not yet have a list of firm suspects in the case.
Throughout his roughly 10-year career in crime, Malli had been associated with the Red Scorpions and Buttar Crime Group syndicates. He was heavily involved in the illegal sale of drugs and guns in the Vancouver area, and tended to switch allegiances among criminal groups quite frequently. Now, police will have to sort through that complicated history to determine who could have been responsible for his death.
Malli was known as a divisive figure in the criminal underworld, and there are several parties that would have wanted him eliminated. For now, police are investigating all leads and are hoping that the man who was with Malli at the time of the shooting will cooperate with the investigation – he is currently in the hospital, recovering from his gunshot wounds, but is listed as being in stable condition.
