WASHINGTON, DC: Prolific actor Irrfan Khan will have his hands full over the next few months, shuttling between the US and India as he works on simultaneously shooting two films – the Indian movie Piku and the Hollywood blockbuster Jurassic World.
The latter film is up first, with Khan departing for the US to film in exotic locations like New Orleans and Hawaii. Jurassic World is the fourth film in the rabidly popular dinosaur film franchise, which consists of 1993’s Jurassic Park, 1997’s The Lost World: Jurassic Park, and 2001’s Jurassic Park III. The first two films were directed by Steven Spielberg, who will serve as a producer on this fourth film, directed by Colin Trevorrow.
Khan told NDTV that he will film a brief portion of his role in Jurassic World before going back to India to shoot Piku, the next film by upcoming director Shoojit Sircar. Sircar is the director behind the 2012 sleeper hit Vicky Donor and last year’s controversial thriller Madras Cafe; his latest film will feature Khan and screen legend Amitabh Bachchan, something Khan says he is incredibly excited for.
After shooting a long schedule for Piku, Khan will return to the US to shoot the lengthy remainder of his part in Jurassic World, a role he says is substantial. Khan has been featured in a multitude of Hollywood productions over the last several years, including big-budget films like Life of Pi and The Amazing Spider-Man. His role in the latter film was very small, leading fans to bemoan the fact that he only showed up in a handful of scenes – Khan assured them that his role Jurassic World is much bigger.
Jurassic World is set to release in summer of 2015; Piku has no firm release date yet, but will likely also be a 2015 release.
