Plans to open office in Los Angeles, too.

WASHINGTON, DC: Bollywood superstar Anil Kapoor has launched his own production company, entitled Antila Ventures, which is intended to be a cross-platform entertainment firm.
The production company is a joint venture by Kapoor and MAS Clearsight, an investment banking company based in Dubai. Antila Ventures will have offices there and Mumbai, with its headquarters in the UK, and there are tentative plans to open up offices in Singapore and, of course, Los Angeles. The company also plans to construct a full-fledged production studio just outside of Mumbai, where filming of the company’s movies can take place.
“I have long nurtured a dream of creating a global entertainment company,” said Kapoor, in a press release. “Given my vast experience in the Indian film industry and exposure in recent years in Hollywood, I felt the time was right to give shape and structure to this vision.”
The company already has its first two film ventures underway: 7 Hindustani and Battle for Bittora. The former film is said to be a coming-of-age dramedy about seven Indian-origin students who come to the US for higher studies, and the experiences that ensue as a result. Battle for Bittora is based on the novel of the same name, by author Anuja Chauhan, and is a romantic story set against the backdrop of tumultuous elections occurring in India.
As one of the few Bollywood actors who has successfully crossed over to Hollywood, Kapoor is in an unusual, but enviable, position of knowing what entertainment would appeal to audiences in both the east and west. In a statement, Kapoor described the types of films he will seek to produce under his new banner.
“The way I see it, people will not settle for any old stuff,” he said. “There is too much to choose from and a professional content provider becomes vital in the chain so that the end-user gets the best options.”
Kapoor has been a star in India for over 20 years, but American audiences know him best as the crafty host of “Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?” in Slumdog Millionaire and as the oddball Indian millionaire in Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol. He also starred in the eighth season of Fox’s hit TV show, “24,” which Kapoor then adapted for Indian audiences to critical and commercial acclaim. He is also working on the Indian version of a TV show based on the stories of Sherlock Holmes.
