BANGALORE: Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer Bang Bang wrapped up its shooting session at Abu Dhabi on May 20.
Bang Bang is the remake of 20th Century Fox produced and James Mangold directed action comedy Knight and Day (2010).
In Bang Bang, Hrithik will play the role of a secret agent who is on the run from secret service, much like his counterpart in Knight and Day played by Tom Cruise. Katrina will be a civilian caught up in the midst of Hrithik’s troubles and adventures. Kartina’s part in the Hollywood original was played by Cameron Diaz.
This is the second time the pair of Hrithik and Katrina will be seen on the silver screen with the exception of the item number ‘Chikni Chameli’ in Agneepath. The last time we had seen this pair together they were romancing amidst the beautiful landscapes of Spain in Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara. Bang Bang has been shot in in Thailand, Greece, Shimla, Manali and Delhi.
Hrithik suffered an injury on the sets of this film while he was performing a stunt where he had to put a jet on his feet and go 30 feet high in the sky and then dive down in the water. The rehearsal of this stunt went south and Hrithik ended up with a subdural hematoma. After that the shooting was put on hold for a few days.
Bollywood has always been big on remakes. In the 1970s, Hrishikesh Mukherhee remade a great many Bengali films. Bollywood’s curry westerns like Sholay have been a great rendition of the spaghetti westerns. Of late, the new tradition is to remake films made in the South Indian film industries (Wanted, Bodyguard, Ghajini, Holiday). But remaking Hollywood has become less common than it was 10 -15 years ago.
Bollywood has understood that a lot of its audiences are familiar with the good stuff from Hollywood. So blatant copies of the original have become few and far in between these days. The last official remake in Bollywood was Abbas-Mustan’s Players which was a take on The Italian Job (2003) which in itself is a remake of an old classic of the same name starring Michael Caine. Players was a flop at the box office.
Knight and Day had received mostly negative to mixed reviews for the film. We can only hope that its Bollywod counterpart does better. Bang Bang is hoping to release in theaters on October 2.
