BANGALORE: Kapil Sharma-hosted ‘Comedy Nights with Kapil’ will go off air this September. The first season of this hit comedy series, which premiered on June 22 last year, will come to an end as the host will get busy shooting Yash Raj Film’s Bank Chor.
Ever since Kapil had signed on for the film, word started flying that he would soon reduce his TV show appearances. A solution presented itself when the two nights a week show was suggested to go back to the one night a week format. But the TV channel, Colors, has refused to turn the show into a once a week affair.
Comedy Nights with Kapil is a multiple award winning comedy show that telecast Saturday and Sundaynights on Colors. The show resembled BBC’s show The Kumars at No. 42 in format.
In the show, a band of comedians, led by Kapil, would play fictional characters who would host real life celebrities into their midst and thereafter funny gossip would ensue. The purpose of Comedy Nights with Kapil was often film promotion where celebrities would appear to promote their own film. The first ever host of the show was Dharmendra who had come for the promotion of his Yamla Pagla Deewana 2.
About the end of the first season of his very successful show Kapil Sharma tweeted, “Comedy nights is going off air from september.. V will come back with new characters n new set.. Till den.. Keep smiling.”
About the return of the show Kapil said that he would soon discuss with the people at the channel and come to a decision about the second season of the show. He said, “Been thinking of Comedy nights new set, characters & a mini break … Will consult with the channel n decide soon Don’t worry be happy.”
Kapil Sharma’s Bank Chor is a comedy film about three bank robbers who decide to rob a bank on the wrong day. It is scheduled for release in March 2015.
