Teenaged friends kill themselves tired of stalking by men.

NEW DELHI: Death came for these two teenage girls in Rohtak, Haryana, via suicide, or abetment to suicide, whichever way one wants to look at it: Nikita Duhan, 17, and her friend Madhu, 16, consumed poisoned mango juice to end the harassment by a group of men who were stalking them for months wherever they went, paying unwanted attention.
One of the girls had scored 97 per cent in her Class X exams, had plans to attend college and then make a life for herself in America. The other was saving money to buy her sister a T-shirt, had similar dreams like her friend, to go settle down in America.
It was not to be, however.
The story of the suicide by the two girls was reported by The Indian Express. The report also gave some paragraphs from separate suicide letters that the two girls left behind; one letter ran into six pages, the other into four pages.
In those notes, the girls said they were so troubled by the stalking that they could not concentrate on studies, were scared they would not be able to perform well academically to make it to the United States. They were also scared that the stalking would bring shame to their family; that society would misunderstand the situation, would point fingers at them instead, think of them as girls with little repute and shame, who hang around with multiple men.
Both girls were studying at a coaching institute, and it was there that they laced mango drinks with some potent toxic chemicals and consumed it, last week. Though they were rushed by staff to a hospital, they died barely 10 minutes after their parents rushed to the hospital after receiving the news.
Madhu wrote in her suicide letter: “Everyday a new man would come and chase us. They would pass lewd remarks and offer us phone numbers. The people around us would stare as if we had done something wrong. You know how bad our colony is… how people will say we encouraged these men to follow us… even though we are innocent.”
Madhu also wrote: “The boys used to stalk us, follow us till our homes. I do not want my family humiliated. My sister will now fulfill your dream of going to America and she will soon call all of you,” she wrote, asking her mother not to throw away her belongings, clothes, books, school bag, footwear. “I shall return in some form… we will meet if god wills.”
In her note, Nikita wrote: “Maine kuchh galat nahin kiya hai jiski wajah se mere parivar ko sharminda hona pade. Mein mar rahi hoon kyunki mein yeh roz-roz ki tension nahin le sakti (I have not done anything wrong to bring shame to my family. I am ending my life because I cannot take this daily tension).”
Nikita also wrote: “I am sorry I could not fulfill your dream of making it big in life and going to America. I have no option left except die. I love you.”
The police have arrested a man named Lokesh who was mentioned in the suicide letters and are on the hunt for others, whose actions ultimately proved deadly for the two girls.

No abuse is too low against you
sad
Why don’t the girls inform their parents. Any such decision is sad and unwarranted. The society and the education system must do some thing to handle such instances.
